Blue Explorers Open Spain’s First Dedicated Scuba Dive Resort

The Blue Explorers Resort – Spain’s first ever dedicated scuba diving resort – opens in May 2018 on the Island of Gran Canaria, with its year-round sunshine and warm waters teaming with diverse marine life, and all just a short-haul flight from Europe.
So, just what will Blue Explorers’ be offering to entice you onto dry land to stay, as well as dive with us?
Where is Europe’s first scuba diving resort?
Puerto de Mogán – a picturesque fishing village on the south-west coast of the island, not far from our dive centre in Taurito. It has plenty of shops, cafes, and restaurants and the village harbour with its picturesque, brightly coloured, traditional Canarian architecture and pretty canals and bridges, have led it to be called ‘the Venice of the Canaries.’
Great accommodation specially aimed at scuba divers
The resort itself is purposefully small and intimate with 14 one and two bedroomed apartments, all tastefully themed after local dive sites. It has a covered pool so teaching people to scuba dive goes on no matter what the weather – although Gran Canaria basks in over 300 days of sunshine per year. There’s a fabulous bar and grill serving ethically, sustainably and locally sourced fresh food with a la carte menus, half and full board, and loads of snacks for when you’ve worked up an appetite. It also has and fully equipped dive centre and dive shop, where you can buy everything from tasteful souvenirs and merchandising to swimwear and dive equipment.
Scuba diving passion runs deep!
ALL our resort staff are divers – from the chefs to resort managers! So, don’t be surprised to find the chef diving with you before he heads off to the kitchen or poolside barbeque to rustle up some delicious food, and if the receptionist’s hair’s wet, you’ll know the reason why! You’ll no doubt bump into our friendly dive crew as they teach in the pool or relax in the evening in the chill-out area.
We say ‘No’ to more ocean pollution and plastic
Blue Explorers Dive Centre’s and Resorts consider themselves custodians of the ocean, so plastic straws and cups are banned in the resort and all plastic we cannot avoid is strictly recycled from guests rooms to the kitchen and beyond. Our dive crews regularly take part in local beach cleaning initiatives and we ask that all our divers – and now, our guests too – to responsibly dispose of their own plastic waste and that guests do not bring products that contain plastic micro-beads to the dive resort.

Jeep safaris and sailing in Gran Canaria
When guests are not diving with us they can select from a plethora of land, sea and air excursions, such as jeep safaris into the strikingly beautiful volcanic landscapes famous in the Canary Islands, or take to the waves with luxurious sunset sailing trips and whale watching excursions. There is something for everyone – scuba divers and non-divers alike.
