Gran Canaria – Best All Year Round Sun And Scuba Spot

The main attraction of Gran Canaria is its year-round sun and warm sea temperatures, as well as beautiful beaches, stunning volcanic landscapes and crystal clear waters teaming with diverse marine life.

Blue Explorers’ have long been taking people diving – up to around 10,000 divers per year head underwater with our dive teams to visit the local abundant flora and fauna, but also caves, shipwrecks and submerged volcanic rock formations. But there’s loads to do on and land too, not least some of our jeep safaris and hiking and biking trips and in our new Blue Explorers’ Resort you can simply relax and lounge by the pool with a smoothie or a cocktail, and if you DIVE with us why not DINE with us in our unique Reef Bar and Grill?

So what else besides great diving, dining and socialising at the Blue Explorers’ Resort does Gran Canaria offer?

Traditional Canarian architecture is incredibly colourful and abundant in the bustling island capital of Las Palmas. There’s a plethora of shops and al fresco restaurants cafes and bars in the old town of Vegueta – a UNESCO world heritage site and a must-see while on the island. Wander its cobbled streets, stopping to sample local cuisine in authentic tapas bars and a cold beer, then when it gets too hot, the nearby Parque Doromas provides plenty of shade with its lush greenery.

If you’re a real land lubber and want to stay close to the sea then meander through the marina area, dotted with historic buildings and tiny independent shops. The capital’s beaches all offer clean golden sand and pristine waters lapping their edges, and are well worth exploring when you tire of shopping.

If you simply refuse to leave the water try Aqualand in Maspalomas, which is full to overflowing with exciting water slides of varying magnitudes and the ideal place to splash around. If you are looking for something more thrilling yet a way to retreat from the madding crowds, then board on your very own jet ski and explore the caves and tiny coves that most visitors don’t even know exist! We offer guided jet ski safaris for those who’re not quite ready to go it alone, or you can explore in pairs, or with your family and friends in together on their own jet skis.

If you fancy something a little faster our boat excursions include banana and doughnut rides or take to the air with parasailing and flyboarding. Then why not chill-out and soak up sun onboard one of our yacht excursions and enjoy an al fresco lunch or dinner with drinks, as the incredible volcanic landscape of Gran Canaria passes by. Try our Mondragon sailing ship with on-board tapas and drinks freshly prepared in the ship’s galley by the on-board chef, and see the unforgettable whales and dolphins in their natural habitat swimming around you. This is the by far the best way to see these amazing wild animals – as custodians of the sea and its marine life, we do not advocate visiting aqua parks or zoos where live creatures are held captive for human entertainment.

On Gran Canaria you can never forget that you’re on a volcanic island with stunning rock formations at every turn.  Visit the truly incredible 200m deep crater, Cauldron de Bandama, just outside Las Palmas’ city limits or the caldera of Tejeda and the moonscape-like Roque Nublo – where ethereal sea clouds (hence its name translating as ‘cloud rock’) descend, making the entire caldera even more other-worldly. Both make for memorable trips and incredible photos of truly unique vistas and terrain you simply won’t find anywhere else. You can also take to the wilds with our jeep safaris and guided hiking tours where our guides will ensure you see the VERY best the island has to offer… And that a quickly descending sea cloud won’t spoil the view!

Gran Canaria has amazing beaches – some with natural sands, some with volcanic sand and some beaches are man-made, but equally stunning, and all are lapped by warm, clear waters. At Puerto de Mogán there is the added bonus of a pretty harbour and village with tiny canals and cute bridges, hence why it’s referred to as the Venice of Gran Canaria. Puerto Rico, on the south coast of the island, is the perfect place to relax and a great choice if you want to escape the noise of the city and be surrounded by an oasis of peace and tranquillity.

Most of the islands beaches have a selection of cafes, restaurants, shops and bars, and some offer a wide range of sports and water activities, such as fishing, water skiing, scuba diving and many varied boat trips in all directions.

Gran Canaria most beautiful beach has to be the magnificent  Maspalomas with its huge undulating sand dunes that stretch as far as the eye can see and are not to be missed. You can ride a camel through the dunes or simply cool off in the azure waters before heading for some frenetic fun and fairground rides at Holiday World Maspalomas, a favourite with families should the weather be inclement with its vast array of indoor arcade games and adrenaline pumping rides. Stop off in one of Maspalomas chic beach bars for a sunset session and after dark dance the night away into the sophisticated Aqua Ocean Club for classy cocktails and a cosmopolitan vibe.

Of course, if you’re staying at our Blue Explorers’ Resort some amongst your group will be avid divers, but we’ve plenty for the non-diver or novice diver too! You could even learn to dive and by the end of your holiday and venture into the sea to swim with exotic fish, turtles and rays, scuba past multi-coloured corals and even explore a mysterious shipwreck or swim through caves and volcanic rock formations. We offer everything from family snorkelling packages and first-time dives activities to diving qualifications and technical dives.

Book your Holiday  at the Blue Explorers’ Resort Gran Canaria – dive in and have whale of a time!
